Sowore’s Arrest: A disturbing development – Ikubese
Former Presidential aspirant and convener of the YesWeFit Revolutionary Movement, Dr. Thomas-Wilson Ikubese has described the arrest of the former presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, Omoyele Sowore as disturbing.
Sowore was arrested in Abuja on Thursday, on his way out of the Court of Appeal and taken to the Abattoir Police station in a gestapo manner
He was however released a few hours later
According to Sowore after his release from the Police net, the Police told him that he was arrested for defaming Prince Chinedu Munir Nwoko, the billionaire popularly known as Ned Nwoko and former House of Representatives member.
“I found this development disturbing” he said.
“Defamation of character is purely a civil case which has nothing to do with the Police”
“The one who feels defamed and seeks redress should approach the court and slam charges on the perceived defamer, rather than resort to police harassment which has no place in law under this circumstance”
“I find this development disturbing because the police, a law enforcement agency should know better!”
“I hereby call on the Inspector General of Police, Mr Usman Alkali Baba to summon the officers who effected this unlawful arrest to orderly room trial for acting contrary to the Police Act and Regulations.”
“This will help to restore confidence in the civil populace and serve as a deterrent to other officers who may wish to act outside of ethical provisions.”
“The role of the police in any society is very critical. They must not be seen as a tool in the hands of the political class cum elites, lest the people resort to self help and a chaotic milieu is birthed.” He added.
