In a strong show of commitment to the welfare of the vulnerable in the society, the deputy governor of Ondo state, Dr. Olayide Adelami, has donated a set of musical instruments to the School for the Visually Impaired in Owo to promote music education and aid talent discovery.

At an event to formally hand over the instruments to the school management on Friday, Dr. Adelami acknowledged the blessings of God upon his journey as a public servant, citing his desire to identify with children with special needs as a way of giving back to the society.

He said the students are an integral part of the society and deserve to acquire skills needed to function properly and be self sufficient.

“The visually impaired are not useless to the society, they are still a productive workforce if their potentials are properly harnessed. My contribution this day is to aid the teachers in discovering and developing the hidden talents in these children.

“As far back as 2007, when I donated a set of musical instruments also to the School for the Blind, Gindiri in Jos. I did not only do that, we also employed a music teacher that was on my payroll for many years.

“In the same vein, I am tasking the school management here to call for applications for a music teacher who is highly proficient to start teaching the students and also maintain the equipment” the deputy governor said.

Dr. Adelami expressed his appreciation to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his interventions in the education sector, particularly for the approval granted to renovate the School for the Visually Impaired.

The deputy governor charged well-meaning Nigerians to consider supporting the children in any capacity, saying government cannot do it alone.

In his remarks, the state commissioner for education, science and technology, Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Dr. Akindele Ige, thanked the deputy governor “for taking up a noble cause and supporting government effort at providing quality education for children with special needs”

Also speaking, the school principal, Mrs Ibironke Balogun, recognized the impact the donation will have on the quality of teaching while thanking the deputy governor for his benevolence.

According to her, “On the 18th of May 2026, you {the deputy governor} paid an unscheduled visit to the school and you made a promise to make available musical instruments to the children in your private capacity. Today, we are witnessing a demonstration of your love for the vulnerable groups in the society. We thank you most sincerely and we also want to thank the governor”

She assured the deputy governor that the school management will put the instruments to good use and ensure the students get the best out it.

The items donated included a 10-channel mixer, keyboard, saxophones, trumpets, Jazz drum set, Conga drums, guitars, rechargeable wireless microphones, and wired microphones, among others.
