Southwest Youth Parliament Backs Call for Zoning Reps Deputy Speakership Seat To Ondo

Ondo State caucus of The SouthWest Youth Parliament drums support for the call to consider Ondo State for House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Seat.

This call which was earlier made by the Ondo State Youth Coalition For Good Governance, Justice, Equity, & Fairness has the support of the Ondo State caucus of The Southwest Youth Parliament.

The ondo state youth honourable members call on the national leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the President-Elect, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu, to consider zoning the position of the deputy speaker of House of Representatives to Southwest and Ondo State in view.

The member representing Ondo North Senatorial District Hon. Gabriel Tanimola Onukanyagba, and his colleague representing Ondo central Hon. Kayode Opeyemi made this support known saying Ondo state has long overdue for such top ranking in the House of Reps.

Putting into consideration the various contributions of the sunshine state to the advancement of the country, it is no doubt that zoning the seat of the DEP. SPEAKER will in no little measure contribute further to the unity and advancement of our nation Nigeria.

Considering the fact that since the inception of democracy in Nigeria, Ondo State has never produced a top-ranked principal officer in the green chamber, we therefore prayed that Ondo State deserved to be given priority and top consideration.

“In addition, Ondo state clinched 8 of the 9 House of Representatives seats in the general election with four of them as ranking members; Rep Peter Abiola Makinde, Rep olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, Rep Timehin Adelegbe and Rep Derin Adesida. These ranking members have competence, capacity and character and wherewithal to be the Deputy Speaker of the 10th National Assembly.

‘Going by the political history and equation, from 1999 till date, Ogun state, Oyo state, Osun state and Lagos state have produced principal officers in the House of Representatives. It should be noted that only Ondo and Ekiti States from Southwest has not been considered for this position.

‘Based on the above, Ondo state should be considered in the zoning arrangements for the position of the deputy speaker position when eventually zoned to the South-West.

The party and her leadership should recalled that “Ondo state produced the highest percentage of vote (67%) for the President-Elect in the February 25th 2023 general election and equally has the capacity to protect the interest of the party at all times, hence the call for this zoning.
