10th NASS Speakership: Ondo Rep, Adelegbe Declares Support For Wase

The member representing Owo and Ose federal constituency in the house of representatives, Honorable Oluwatimehin Adelegbe has declared his support for the speakership ambition of Rt. Honorable Ahmed Idris Wase, the deputy speaker of the house of representatives.

Adelegbe, who is the deputy chairman, house committee on foreign affairs, made this disclosure while speaking with Nigerian Cable News online at his office in Abuja on Thursday.

According to him, given his antecedents, Idris Wase is not only the most qualified for the office of the speaker among those aspiring, he is also a natural successor to the incumbent speaker.

He said:

“At the moment, there are three formidable aspirants for the office of the speaker of the 10th assembly, we have my friend and chairman of the committee on appropriation, honorable Betara from northeast and thesame state with the vice President-elect. We also honorable Tajudeen Abass from the northwest. And we equally have the present deputy speaker from the north central, who was to contest for speaker at the inception of this Assembly, but dropped the ambition as a prove of loyalty and submissiveness to the leadership of our party. He has also demonstrated his loyalty and support to the speaker in the last four years, he has helped the speaker to achieve stability in the house, and that is why I and a number of other colleagues think he is a natural successor.”

“I think Wase should be a natural successor and have the right of first refusal, because of his show of consistency, loyalty and commitment to the party and it’s leadership, the progressive ideology and the speaker in the presently Assembly. I’m waiting and hopeful, that at some point, the speaker will openly endorse Idris Wase as his preferred choice of successor.”

When asked if the recent visit of the deputy speaker to Ondo state should be taken as an endorsement of the southwest governors, he said:

“Let me first establish that I’m hundred percent loyal to my governor, Arakunrin Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, I believe in him, because he is always not only courageous but straight forward, and he has told me that what is fair is fair, Wase should be a natural successor, in order to maintain stability in the house of representatives and enhance a good relationship between the house and the executive. And he said that is his personal opinion. So he has endorsed Wase for Speaker. Governor Yahaya bello of Kogi state has also thrown his weight behind Wase.”

On zoning, he said the speakership should naturally be zoned to the north central, because the northwest has produced four speakers from the inception of the fourth republic till now, and the northeast already has the vice President-elect.

“Idris Wase is Capable, he has good Character and can deliver” Adelegbe added.
