Proposed Ondo Council Election: PDP Reacts

The Ondo state chapter of PDP Support Group has called on the governor of Ondo State, Mr. Rotimi Akeredolu SAN, to suspend all plans and actions at conducting the proposed fresh council elections across the 18 Local government areas of Ondo state.

Sequel to the ongoing case at the Akure Appeal court, with respect to the Local Government Councils leadership he illegally dissolved last year.

In a statement released by the State Coordinator of the group, Hon. Bode Obanla, in Akure on Tuesday, he expressed surprise at the repeated disrespectful attitudes of state governor to the court and the profession that has given him a lift and means in life.

He alluded to the illegal manner with which he purportedly dissolved the local government council leadership in the state last year, and his open contempt for the court processes by his renewed efforts at circumventing a matter pending in court, by setting up a machinery to lead to the conduct of another council election, despite the pending case in court.

Obanla advised the governor to reverse his new decision now, adding that the Group shall deploy all known legitimate means to making him respect the laws of the land, if he fails to do.

The Ondo State Governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, SAN had earlier approved the constitution of the State Independent Electoral Commission, (ODIEC). In preparation for the conduct of Election in the 18 Local Government Areas of the State,

The approval was contained in a press statement issued on Tuesday 6th February, 2018 by the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Segun Ajiboye. The statement added that the list containing the seven names would be sent to the State House of Assembly for confirmation.
