Owo Youths Demand Hon Ogunmolasuyi’s Recusal From Commissioners Screening

Youths in Owo local government of Ondo state, under the auspices of the Owo Concerned Youths, have sent a petition to the Ondo State House of Assembly, demanding that Hon. Ogunmolasuyi, the former Majority Leader and representative of Owo Constituency 1, recuse himself from the screening process for commissioner nominees.

About 50 members of the group were present at the Assembly complex, carrying placards with inscriptions such as “Hon. Ogunmolasuyi Must Recuse Himself” and “Integrity Matters in Commissioner Screening”.

The youths cited a breach of trust and constitutional process, following a statement issued by Hon. Ogunmolasuyi congratulating commissioner designates before their screening. This action, they argued, puts the Assembly in bad light as a rubber-stamp arm for the Executive, rather than co-equal and functional arm of government.

Arguing further, the youth groups expressed that democracy was indeed in danger. Calling the opposition People’s Democratic Party, weak. Saying such actions by Ogunmolasuyi should call the attention of a serious opposition. Rather than waste time in court over 18 – 0 loss, the opposition must put its house in order to ensure democracy doesn’t fail or collapse in Ondo State.

“We will not stand idly by while our representative compromises the integrity of the Assembly,” said a spokesperson for the group. “We demand that Hon. Ogunmolasuyi recuse himself from the screening process to restore public trust.”

The group has threatened to commence court proceedings to stop the Assembly from continuing the process if their demands are not met.

The development has sent shockwaves through the Ondo State political landscape, with many watching to see how the Assembly will respond to the youths’ demands. Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story!
