Ondo Youths Condemn Sowore’s Re-arrest in Court, Call NASS to Summon SSS DG

Youths of Ondo state Origin under the auspices of the Ondo State Youth Network (OSYN) has condemned the re-arrest of Omoyele sowore, the publisher of Sahara reporters online news, inside the court room on Friday.

The youths in a statement signed by their coordinator, Obatola Jonathan, sent to Nigerian Cable News online called on the National Assembly to summon the director general of State Security Service (SSS) to answer questions on the unlawful arrest.

Below is the statement unedited :

Ondo State Youth Network (OSYN) condemn in entirety, the desecration of the judiciary by the agents of the Department of State Service (DSS) while making attempt to re-arrest Omoyele Sowore and Olawale Bakare yesterday.

This despicable act which forced the Judge to abandon judicial proceedings contravenes Section 43(2) of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act which states that “A warrant of arrest may be executed by any police officer at any time and in any place in any State other than within the actual court room in which a court is sitting.”

Recall that Messrs Omoyele Sowore and Olawale Bakare were first arrested in August and despite two court orders for their release, the DSS refused to release them.

This lack of adherence to ethos, rule of law and constitutionality is one of the most daunting problems stunting the growth of Nigeria democratically under the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.

On behalf of the entire youths of Ondo State, we call on the National Assembly to, as a matter of urgent public importance, summon the Director General of the DSS, investigate this shameful act and ensure all agents of the department culpable are punished under the law.

Signed

Jonathan Obatola
Coordinator, Ondo State Youth Network.
