Nigerian Army Reacts Over Aggressive Showoff Of Troops At Borno
The Nigerian Army has taken charge over the show of aggression by some troops on Sunday’s evening following their redeployment from Maiduguri to Marte, another local government area within the same capital city of Borno state.
Late last night, the soldiers in protest against their redeployment, shot at the air sporadically at the Maiduguri Airport when they were to be flown to the newly posted camp.
In their refusal, they stated that they were supposed to be allowed to return back to their families and not to reposted for such a dangerous assignment.
In the account of an eyewitness officer, superior officers, including Bulami Biu, general officer commander (GOC) of 7 division, were asked to stay off the airport or risk being shot.
This morning, Onyema Nwachukwu, Deputy Director Public Relations of Operation Lafiya Dole Theatre
Command, stated that calm has been restored at the airport as he also made clarification on what the aggrieved soldiers got misconstrued.
“The redeployment became expedient after a recent assessment of the security situation by the Theatre Command.
Regrettably however, a few of the troops who had misunderstood the development and erroneously assumed it was going to negatively affect their rotation from the theatre of operation became agitated and reacted by firing into the air.
“Calm has however been restored, as the Theatre Commander, Major General Abba Dikko has promptly taken charge of the situation after addressing and admonishing the troops,” Mr Nwachukwu, a colonel said in the statement made available today.
