Below is the Statement, Unedited;
BEDC Resumes Back To Okitipupa, Others To Begin Operation

Due to the the directive issued to the Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC) by The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) after a resolution reached in Abuja at the commission’s office on July 6, 2017, that the disco company, BEDC, should resume back to the affected local governments of Okitipupa, Ilaje, Irele and Ese Odo that were cut off from the national grid since November, 2014; today, July 20, 2017, we wish to inform our people that the distribution company was received and welcomed back to Okitipupa township, the headquarters of Okitipupa local government in Ondo State by some leaders of Bring Back Our Light (BBOL), an apolitical and voluntary group which has been consistently leading the struggle to restore electricity back to the four affected local governments in Ondo south of Ondo State.

The general public will recall that BBOL recently dragged the disco company to NERC in Abuja on behalf of the four affected local governments and submitted proof of illegal disconnection, and samples of estimated bills to the regulatory commission after all efforts to prevail on the disco company to reconnect the affected communities back to the national grid proved abortive.

We have been expecting the disco company since last week. We understood the delay exhibited by the distribution company but today, we thank God that the much awaited expectation has become reality.

BEDC was received in Okitipupa LGA today at the palace of His Royal Majesty, Oba Michael Obatuga Adetoye, the Jegun of Idepe – Okitipupa alongside the Chairman planning, strategies and implementation committee of BBOL, and former Chairman of Okitipupa local government, Hon. Solomon Bitire. Also, Mr. Omotunde Onukun, à member of BBOL and the administrator of the group, pst Olumide Akinrinlola were among those that welcomed and received the BEDC officials back to the community.

Speaking at his palace on behalf of the community, the Jegun of Idepe – Okitipupa assured the team of their safety in Okitipupa community and its environs. The traditional ruler also promised the distribution company that the residents will cooperate with BEDC staffs for their smooth operations across the various communities in the four affected local governments.

The BEDC team was led by their business manager, mr Chris Amuawaka who said the company will start skeletal work from tomorrow and will begin full operation on Monday. Mr Chris also said that BEDC will be focusing more attention on the repair of the damaged electricity cables which give supply of power to Okitipupa from Ore town. According to him, the Job had already been contracted out to some technical experts which takes immediate effect while he explained that another team of BEDC staffs will move from communities to communities to work on their facilities.

Now that BEDC has resumed to begin operation and start immediate repair of damaged electricity facilities, we implore our people to show love and cooperate with BEDC staffs.

It is also imperative at this junction to inform our people at home to keep off from touching damaged electricity cables and distance themselves from toying with electricity facilities at this moment to avoid any casualties as BEDC has said that they will from time to time carry out the test running of any repaired facilities in the course of performing their jobs in our various towns and villages.

We appreciate the support of our sons and daughters in this struggle especially Hon. Adeniyi Mike Omogbehin and many others for their support and contribution to this struggle. We can’t but appreciate all our royal fathers for complementing our efforts at all time and for reposing the confidence in BBOL in the struggle to put out darkness from our land.

Long live BBOL !
Long Live Ondo south !
Long live Ondo State !

Signed:

Pst Olumide Akinrinlola, Administrator of Bring Back Our Light (BBOL)
