JUST IN: Kogi Poly Rector Bows To Pressure, Resigns
Following pressure from students and staff of Kogi State Polytechnic, the institution’s rector, Isah Muhammad, has finally resigned.
Last Monday, over 40 suspected thugs invaded Kogi State Polytechnic and disrupted the sitting of the governing council. The meeting was meant to deliberate on whether to reject or support the re-appointment of the rector whose tenure ended last Friday.
In July, students and staff of the institution protested against the rector over allegations of incompetence. They also called on the state governor, Yahaya Bello, to terminate his appointment.
The embattled rector resigned on Friday. The polytechnic’s spokesman, Luke Tijani also confirmed this.
“Mr Mohammed has officially resigned and all plans are put in place for his deputy, Dr Attah Haruna to be the acting rector pending the plans to appoint a substantive rector by the visitor of the school,” he said.
Before his resignation, Mr Muhammed reportedly did not have the support of the Students’ Union, the Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (ASUP) and Non-Academic Staff Union of Polytechnic (NASUP). They accused him of anti-labour activities.
