My Impeachment Will Not Stand – OAU S.U President

The office of the Students’ Union President, Oyekan Ibukun of Obafemi Awolowo University has reacted to the purported impeachment of the union leader on Saturday.

In a statement broadcast across social media platform, the president described the said impeachment as “kangaroo”.

As the union’s Financial Secretary and Public Relations Officer were also sanctioned with suspensions of two weeks each, Ibukun said:

My attention has been drawn to a news flying around social media that the President has been impeached, the Secretary General, Financial Secretary and PRO suspended for two weeks. May I use this medium to inform you all that is not true and not in tandem with the sacrosanct constitution of our union.

The Parliament has 150 honourables. Report reaching me is that 37 honourables voted‎ for the impeachement of the President against zero. This is evident of their sinister plan and motive”.

With the sole aim of undermining the news, the president however asked the students of the university to disregard the intention of “distractors to divide the union with their selfish plots”.
