Why I Will Never Return To PDP – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has said he will never return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for any reason possible.

Obasanjo was the leader of PDP for eight years as he run as Nigeria’s President for two tenures under it and even became the chairman of its board of trustees in 2007.

To a great astonishment, the elder statesman tore his membership card publicly at a period close to 2015 election and that marked his farewell from partisan politics.

As the delegation led by Ahmed Makarfi, chairman of the opposition party, visited the octogenerian at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun state, on Tuesday and sought his support for the one-time ruling party, Obasanjo turned down request to join again.

Obasanjo was quoted telling the journalists this after meeting with Makarfi and other party men:

“I have told the chairman that I was in PDP before but not now. God forbid, when a dog vomits, it will go back to eat its vomit, no,” he said.

“I have said no partisan politics for me again and not partisan politics, but Nigeria is my passion until death do us part and anything that concerns Nigeria; the good of Nigeria, you will see my involvement.

“So, the chairman has come to greet me and he will be going. You gentlemen and ladies of the press, you can now go, leave the chairman alone.

“I have said that publicly before and I will say it again, for our democracy to thrive and continue to be strong, we need strong party in government and strong party in the
opposition.”
