Countrymen Lament As Nigeria Loses Popular Prof In Ethiopian Airline Crash
Of the entire 157 passenger and 8 crew members on board that lost their lives in the Ethiopian airline plane crash early today, a Nigerian professor, Pius Adesanmi has been confirmed to be among.
At around 8am today, Ethiopian airline lost signals from its aircraft that later crashed en route to Nairobi, Kenya, after take off from Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, with all persons on board dead.
In one of the Accident bulletins released by the airline, the passengers are dispersed across 19 nationalities like Nigeria, Kenya, U.S.A, Canada, e.t.c
Information gathered revealed, Prof. Pius, the only Nigerian on board was on his trip to attend African Union ECOSOCC committee meeting in Nairobi, the capital of Kenya.
On Twitter, some Nigerians, inculding the Young Progressive Party Candidate in the just concluded Presidential election, Kingsley Moghalu, expressed their sympathy.
“I just got information that Professor Pius Adesanmi, a Nigerian professor with Carlton University in Canada is among those that died this morning on the ill fated Ethiopia airline. On his way to attend the AU ECOSOCC committee meeting in Nairobi. RIP”, says a Twitter user.
In reply to the thread, Prof. Moghalu wrote:
“Heartbreaking! Brilliance, capacity and commitment to our nation cut down at noon! May Pius’s gallant soul RIP.”
Similarly, a well-known social media commentator and influencer, Japheth Omojuwa also made this heartfelt emotions public making reference to his past post before he discovered that his acquaintance was among the lives lost.
“When I posted earlier, consoling those who lost folks in the Ethiopian flight, I didn’t know I was in that moment unknowingly consoling myself”, Omojuwa lamented.
Meanwhile, the Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari also sympathized with the government of Ethiopia over the tragic incident.
From the president’s condolence, it’s obvious the Presidency is yet tone aware a renowned Nigerian was lost.
Buhari sympathized with his colleague leader in Ethiopia and Prime Minister saying: “I am profoundly saddened by the news of the crash involving @flyethiopian, one of the world’s most successful and efficient Airlines. On behalf of the Govt & people of Nigeria, I extend sincere condolences to PM Abiy Ahmed of Ethiopia, and to all the countries that lost citizens”.
