Buhari Breaks Silence Over Saraki’s Acquittal At Supreme Court

The Nigeria’s President, Muhammadu Buhari has reacted to the verdict of the Supreme Court to discharge and acquit Senate President, Bukola Saraki of the remaining charges against him in the case of false declaration of assets.

The apex court upheld the appeal of the Senate President, who challenged that the past decision of the Court of Appeal that ruled that the former be tried
by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) on three of the 18 counts brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

In reaction to the ruling of the court on Thursday, Buhari stated that the judicial system of the country is working assiduously and no should be permitted to successfully undermine its strength.

The State House Press Release: partly quoted the President saying: the courts should be allowed to do their job.

“President Muhammadu Buhari has said that Nigeria’s judicial system, no matter the challenges it faces, is truly working and no one should be allowed to undermine or break it”, it buttressed.

Buhari further illustrated that Saraki is a typically example of one who persevered to allow the bidding of the law to take its course despite the hurdles.

“I have seen many instances where individuals and groups seek the destruction of the judicial institution in the foolish thinking of saving their skin, instead of going through the painstaking process of establishing their innocence.”

“In the case of the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, I have seen him take the tortuous path of using the judicial process. He persevered, and in the end, the highest court of the land, the Supreme Court, says he is not guilty as charged.”

“This is what I have done in the three elections in which I was cheated out, before God made it possible for me to come here the fourth time I ran for the office”, he stressed.

The President added that the journey of the Senate President’s case from the lowest to the highest court of the land provides an important example that all Nigerians should emulate.
