Ben Bruce, Oby Ezekwesili Condemn Attacks By Police On Anti-Buhari Protesters

Both the Senator from Bayelsa, Ben Murray Bruce and the former Minister of Education, Dr. Oby Ezekwesili have reacted to the attack of the FCT Police on the protesting Concerned Nigerians spearheaded by ace musician, Charly Boy, subsequently.

While the Anti-Buhari protesters were demonstrating yesterday on the demands for the resignation or quick resumption of President Muhammadu Buhari yesterday at the Unity Fountain centre, Abuja, the lawmaker  and also the Silverbird TV owner, Senator Ben Bruce alleged the Police for attacking a journalist from Silverbird in the process of halting the demonstration.

This morning, he said:

“I condemn the police brutality on Silverbird TV’s Amadin Uyi. I don’t have staff. I have family and an attack on them is an attack on me.

“Amadin Uyi was doing his duties as provided by the law. Why should my family member be thus treated! This is an attack on press freedom.”

He however strongly urged the Inspector of Police to investigate the incidence as he will be on surveiling if action is taken to that effect or not.

“I call on the Inspector General of Police to launch an investigation into the attack on Amadin Uyi. We will be waiting and watching!”, he noted.

On the other hand, the Former Minister of Education who is also the convener of BringBackOurGirls Movement Oby Ezekwesili expressed disappointment on the attempt to stop Charly Boy and his solidarity crew in demanding the resumption or resignation of the President.

Charly Boy was reported to have collapsed after inhaling gas from canister sprayed by the security men.

In series of tweets today, Ezekwesili said the presidency should focus more on
disseminating adequate information about the president’s health and not on stopping citizens from protesting.

She assured that no amount of police brutality would stop Charly Boy from returning the next day to continue the protest.
