Youth Assembly To Buhari: Declare Fulani Herdsmen A Terrorist Group Now
The Ondo state chapter of the Youth Assembly of Nigeria has threatened to take to the streets in a mass protest, if there is any reoccurrence of Fulani herdsmen attack in the state.
According to a statement signed by the Speaker and State coordinator of YAN in Ondo state, Rt Hon. Adeyelu Oluwadamilare Samuel, as sent to nigeriancablenewsonline.com. YAN opined that President Buhari should declare the herdsmen a terrorist group and the deploy the military to the affected states to prevent any further attack.
The statement reads in part:
“The recent attack by Fulani herdsmen is on the increase with no fewer than 73 persons killed in Benue state recently, Despite the directive by the federal government that the office of the IGP should be relocated to Benue state in order to prevent reoccurrence(s).”
“Hence, We (the) youths believe that this directive is poor and inadequate to curb the gruesome killing of innocent citizens and loss of properties. We expect the Federal government to take more proactive measures in the situation that bothers on the security of lives and properties of Nigerians.”
“We do not see any reasons why the military operation could not be deployed to those areas where this dastardly act were perpetuated. According to the 2015 Global TERRORISM INDEX, the Fulani militants, stand the fourth most deadliest group in the world with record killing of 1229 people in 2014 alone. If these herdsmen had been rated an “high risk terrorist group”, what then stopped the federal government from declaring them a terrorist group, and in the same vein put an end to their killings once and for all instead of paying lip service to serious issues that affect the lives of Nigerians.”
“Hence, i emplore the peace loving youths of Ondo state to please be vigilant and report any suspicious movement of strangers or herdsmen found with any dangerous weapon to the DSS or other security outfits who would hitherto take effective measures of arrest.”
“I also want to advise the Governor of the state to please make the lives of the youths and citizens of Ondo state who voted for him a priority and not as a political eye service to his master.
It should also be brought to his notice that the entire youth of Ondo state frown at the manner at which attacks on Chief Olu Falae’s farm land has become a reoccurring thing by the herdsmen.”
“However, any further attack on any community within Ondo state will hence not be taken lightly by the youths. As further attack without meaningful stand and action from the state government will definitely call for large protest from the youths.”
