US Protest: Black CNN Correspondent Arrested By Police On Live Television

A black CNN journalist, Omar Jimenez was taken into police custody during a live broadcast at the site of the protests in Minneapolis, after clearly identifying himself to officers.

The protest is about the unarmed blackman, George Floyd murdered by an officer of the Minneapolis police department.

Jimenez’s crew, including a producer and a camera operator, were also placed in handcuffs.

The CNN camera was also taken into custody and continued to record as the crew was handcuffed, with police seemingly unaware that the camera was still on.

The journalists were however released after some hours in custody with an Apology from the governor of Minnesota.

It is note worthy that the protest against the act generally seen as racism against George Floyd is on its fourth day with a gradual spread to other states of the United States of America.

President Donald Trump in a reaction through his official Twitter handle described the protesters as thugs.

Below is his statement:

The protesters are asking for justice, asking the state to file a charge against the police officers involved in Floyd’s ‘murder’.
