Tunji-Ojo Mourns Fasoranti, Says Nigeria Has Lost A True Leader
The Minister of Interior, Hon. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, has expressed sadness over the death of elder statesman and Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Famuyide Fasoranti, CFR, who died at the age of 100.
Tunji-Ojo, in a condolence tribute, described the late Fasoranti as a true leader and an enduring symbol of Nigeria’s democratic journey.
He said the centenarian devoted his life to selfless service and principled leadership, noting that his contributions to the political development of Ondo State and Nigeria would remain indelible.
According to the minister, Fasoranti was a lifelong disciple of the late sage, Chief Obafemi Awolowo, and a longstanding leader of the Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere.
He noted that the late elder statesman was committed to justice, true federalism and the dignity of the Yoruba people, while also advocating national unity and democratic values.
Tunji-Ojo recalled that Fasoranti was recently celebrated at an event in Lagos to mark his 100th birthday, describing the occasion as a rare honour that reflected the respect he commanded across generations and political divides.
He extended his condolences to the Fasoranti family, the people of Ondo State, members of Afenifere and all those inspired by the deceased’s life and service.
Tunji-Ojo prayed for the repose of Fasoranti’s soul and for divine comfort for the family and others mourning his passing.
“Adieu, Pa Fasoranti. Your legacy of courage, service, and integrity endures,” the minister said.
