Thousands Benefit As NGO, DROMI Holds Open Free Market In Ondo

A non governmental organisation, Dr. Rhoda Makinde Initiative (DROMI), in collaboration with honourable Abiola Makinde, a member of the house of representatives, has organised a free open market for women in ondo east and west local governments of ondo state.

The event, which held in ondo kingdom on Tuesday had thousands of beneficiaries, who are mostly aged women.

Dr. Rhoda Makinde said the initiative is to make food available to women as much as possible.

The beneficiaries, who were coordinated at the event, picked shopping baskets each as they moved round to pick groceries and raw food items for free.

The items include rice, yam, beans, garri, spaghetti, noodles, raw cow and goat meats, plantains, vegetables, onions, tomatoes, pepper, vegetable oil, palm oil, soaps, including cloth materials. Other items include electronic appliances such as pressing iron, blender and so on.

While addressing the women and beneficiaries of the programme, Hon. Abiola Makinde empathised the importance of the programme, saying that he and his wife are very well informed that people are going through different kinds of economic challenges.

Beneficiaries were in joyous mood while speaking with newsmen.

A 54 year old Mrs. Mopelola Akinbobola expressed her joy as she said this Open Free Market initiative has never happened in the history of Ondo. While praying that God blesses the MHR and his wife.

Christiana Akintemi, also a beneficiary said: this Free open market will never be forgotten in the hearts of Ondo women. I am happy because this is the first time I’ll be picking things worth of about N25,000 free of charge.
