Seven Killed As Robbers Attack Bank In Ondo

No fewer than seven persons have been confirmed dead following a robbery attack in a new generation Bank in Ondo state.

The robbery which lasted for over an hour on Monday happened at Isewa Quarters, Ido-Ani, headquarters of Ose Local Government Area of the state.

The robbers numbering about six who arrived in a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) attacked the commercial bank in the town, First Bank Plc and carted away an undisclose amount of money.

It was gathered that five officials of the bank as well as two customers who were at the bank’s ATM point were shot dead by the robbers.

They were said to have destroyed the bank security door with dynamite after shooting sporadically in different directions to scare people away.

It was also gathered that one of the robbers was arrested by men of the Nigerian Army while he was trying to escape.

Some customers and officials of the bank were said to have been severely injured during the operation as the robbers beat them to a pulp while trying to gain access into the bank’s vault.

When contacted by our correspondent, the Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO) Ondo State Command Femi Joseph confirmed the robbery incident.

The PPRO however said six persons lost their lives in the robbery attack.

Joseph said: ” Yes, I can confirm the attack today. Four bank officials, one customer and a police officer was killed.

”The robbers in their attempt to have access to the bank’s vault, I think those bank officials frustrated them, hence the reason why they were killed.

” We have a suspect from the attack in our custody.”
