Senator Orji Kalu Released from Correctional Service

Former Abia Governor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has been released from Kuje Custodial Centre, Abuja where he was serving a 12-year sentence following an order to that effect by the Federal High Court in Lagos.

However, Justice Mohammad Liman of the Federal High Court in Lagos ordered the release of Kalu on Tuesday following his conviction last December for alleged looting of N7.65b belonging to Abia state

According to The Nation, he was released around 7:30pm

The Senate Chief Whip was convicted on 5 December, 2019 by a Lagos Division of the Federal High Court, , and sentenced the ex-governor, to 12 years in prison for N7.65 billion fraud.

Justice Mohammed Idris, who delivered the sentence, had earlier declared him guilty of the charge in the case that had been on for 12 years.
