POLITICAL CONVENTIONAL ARRANGEMENT BETWEEN ODIGBO AND ILE-OLUJI/OKEIGBO FEDERAL CONSTITUENCY

It’s on record that in 1999 with the start of the current political dispensation, Hon.(Mrs) Janet Febisola Adeyemi was elected on the political platform of Alliance for Democracy(AD)to the Federal House of Representatives, Abuja. She spent a term of 4years. (1999 – 2003). Mrs Adeyemi hails from Ileoluji/Okeigbo Local Govt Council.

On a rotational basis between the two Local Governments, it was the turn of Odigbo Local Council, which produced Hon.Barr. Emmanuel Adedeji on the platform of the People’s Democratic
Party(PDP)to the National Assembly. Barr. Adedeji spent two terms of 8years. (2003 – 2011)

Followed by the election of Hon.Johnson Adeoba from Ileoluji/Okeigbo on the platform of the Labour Party, who spent a term of 4years.(2011 – 2015)

With the unwritten agreement which has now become a convention, Rt. Hon. Mayowa Akinfolarin was elected on the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) from Odigbo Local Govt for the first 4-year term and later got a returned ticket on the platform of All Progressive Congress(APC) making a total of two terms of 8years concurrently. (2015 – 2023)

Consequent upon the gentleman’s arrangement between the two Local Governments as aforesaid, it was the turn of Ileoluji/Okeigbo Local Council, which produced Hon.Festus Adefiranye in 2023, who is currently representing the Federal Constituency at the National Assembly on the platform of All Progressive Congress(APC). Hon. Adefiranye’s tenure will terminate in May 2027.

While it is the turn of Odigbo Local Government to produce another representative to represent the Federal Constituency starting from May 2027 in a chronological order of turn by turn and “ODIGBO do two, ILEOLUJI/OKEIGBO do one” term respectively since it has become a convention between the two Local Governments.

It should equally be noted that Odigbo Local Government have two(2) State Constituencies with 304 polling units while Ileoluji/Okeigbo has only one(1) electoral State Constituency with 191 polling Units.
