Owo/Ose Rep, Adelegbe Empowers Constituents With Over 500 Laptops, Cash Grants, Others
It was a moment of tears of joy as the lawmaker representing Owo/Ose Federal Constituency in the lower chamber of the National Assembly, Hon. (Dr.) Timehin Adelegbe, gave back to members of his constituency during a three-day empowerment program.
The event, held across Owo and Ifon in Owo and Ose Local Governments respectively, brought significant support to the beneficiaries, emphasizing the legislator’s commitment to improving the lives of his constituents.
The empowerment program kicked off with a series of training sessions for the beneficiaries, focusing on Fish Farming, Cybersecurity, and Computer Training, all held in Owo. These training sessions were designed to equip participants with valuable skills that could lead to sustainable livelihoods and personal development.
The program later culminated in a grand ceremony where over 500 laptops were distributed to participants who completed the ICT training. Additionally, cash grants ranging from N50,000.00 to N150,000.00 were awarded to those trained in fish farming. The trainees were also informed that they would receive fish farming equipment within the next week to further support their ventures.
In another significant gesture, Hon. Adelegbe distributed 30,000 free hybrid cocoa seedlings, agrochemicals, and cash grants of N250,000 each to farmers within the federal constituency. This distribution, held at St. Paul Anglican Primary School in Ifon, Ose Local Government Area, attracted a large gathering of farmers eager to benefit from the legislator’s agricultural initiatives.
Addressing the farmers, Hon. Adelegbe highlighted the economic value of cocoa farming, noting that cocoa has been a major source of income for the people of Ondo State for decades. He explained that the distribution of hybrid cocoa seedlings and agrochemicals was part of his broader plan to rejuvenate cocoa plantations in the area. He further revealed his goal to introduce 100,000 cocoa trees over the next four years to replace aging plantations, a project that would cost millions of naira.
Speaking to beneficiaries of the Cybersecurity and Computer Training, Adelegbe urged them to utilize their new laptops for positive and productive purposes, warning against their use for internet fraud. He similarly encouraged the fish farming trainees to take their new skills seriously, noting the lucrative potential of the fish farming industry.
The lawmaker reiterated his commitment to delivering more dividends of democracy to his constituents. He assured them that all his projects, both completed and ongoing, would be commissioned soon, promising continuous development in the region.
One of the beneficiaries of the fish farming training, Mrs. Oloye Funmilayo, expressed her gratitude, describing the lawmaker’s gesture as unprecedented in the constituency. She commended Adelegbe for the program, stating that the training and cash gift had renewed her hope. Mrs. Oloye called on other political office holders to emulate Adelegbe’s approach, which she believes is key to eradicating poverty and creating jobs in the country.
Similarly, Oluwadare Oluwatimehin, a beneficiary of the Cybersecurity training, expressed his readiness to become self-employed and a job creator thanks to the training and laptop he received. He thanked the lawmaker for the life-changing opportunity, which he said would remain a lasting memory for all the beneficiaries.
A significant highlight of the empowerment program was the defection of some PDP members from Ijagba in Ose Local Government Area. The defectors, led by Mrs. Clementa Akhigbe, former PDP Women Leader in Ward 7, Elder Monday Aimudo, a former PDP Secretary, and Prince Isaac Momoh, an erstwhile Chairman of PDP in Ijagba Ward 7, announced their decision to join the APC.
While welcoming the defectors, Hon. Adelegbe urged them to support Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s gubernatorial ambition, expressing confidence in the governor’s leadership.
