OsunDecides2018: Omisore Opens Up As Atiku Begs For PDP

The quest to cling to power come November 2018 in Osun state is getting more dicey as the second runner-up in the gubernatorial poll last Saturday is apparently the game-changer to determine who wins the election between the major contenders, Senator Ademola Adeleke of Peoples Democratic Party and Honourable Gboyega Oyetola of the All Progressive’s Congress.

As Professor Joseph Fuwape, the returning officer of Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC declared the election inconclusive because of cancelled votes in some polling units which are more in number than the margin between the two top opponents, being 354 votes apart.

Senator Omisore could been holding the magic wand as his political stronghold, Ife, has three out of the seven polling units where the rerun election would be conducted on Thursday.

It’s clear that whoever Omisore throws in support for has the highest tendency of scaling through into become next Osun state governor for at least one tenure of four years.

Omisore had left to Social Democratic Party from PDP few months to the election because of some irreconcilable differences with the Party Leaders.

Now, either or not APC or PDP will win lies largely on his political play.

On losing the election, Omisore maintained that despite the fact that the votes of the people of Osun were manipulated, he has accepted defeat for subsequent trial.

“Our people’s votes have again been manipulated through vote buying, and exploitation of the hunger in our land. Only good governance and committed leadership can drive out this hunger. The quest for this continues.”

“We shall continue to invest on democratic education and political awareness of our people, so vote buying is totally eliminated in the most peaceful and democratic ways”, he said.

While acknowledging the support he garnished from people as the flagbearer of SDP, he swiftly debunked the rumor that he is allying with any party or candidate ‘for now’ to produce an eventual winner.

“The SDP shall not leave the Osun state to corrupt wheeler dealers but shall continue to commit to social justice and equity until we can be assured that our electoral processes are sanitized and give us the state of our dreams
I thank you all.”

“Please disregard all rumour of any alliance talks with any party/candidate for now. Osun will be great again”, Omisore cleared.”

Furthermore, Omisore lauded the agenda of his party in the face of political contentions to ride to the helm of affairs.

He is pleased with the guiding conducts of SDP.

“I am delighted that our message of good governance and dignity has reached every corner of the state. Over the past four months, I have worked with committed people who have given time and resources to our shared agenda for restoration.

I am confident that while we might appear to have lost an election, we have won the greater victory; the clarion call by all our people for good governance and accountability. We have positively impacted on electoral campaigns and elections in Osun state.

The SDP campaign was factual, informed and inclusive. Our manifesto presented to the people an Agenda for Restoration of Good Governance and Human Dignity. Its five pillars spoke to our needs across all sectors, promoted access that would leave no one behind.

The reaction was swift albeit as a ploy to win votes. Our campaign prompted payment of salaries, a commitment to push back on common uniforms and questionable mega schools. We have called attention to patronage driven public sector management”, the Osun governorship candidate said in his statement.

Atiku begs

Upon his insistence that he is not working with an candidate or party as at now, the former Vice President of Nigeria and a Peoples Democratic Party presidential aspirant, Atiku Abubakar appealed to Omisore to help PDP reclaim Osun again.

He reminisced on how the former lawmaker used the platform of his old party to win senatorial seat in 2014.

“I am confident PDP will win in Osun, no matter the ulterior motive of APC. I call on Senator Omisore to remember the PDP, which believed in him and gave him its ticket in 2014. I urge him to join with all who want to deliver Osun from negative change and support”, Atiku wrote on his Twitter this morning.
