Ondo: Tofowomo Urges Akeredolu To Pay Past Political Appointees

Nicholas Tofowomo, the senator-elect in Ondo south senatorial district during the 2019 general elections has called the attention of governor Rotimi Akeredolu to the need to pay the political appointee who served under the Mimiko led administration.

Tofowomo in a statement signed by his media aide, Mr. Olumide Akinrinlola stressed that some of the past appointees had died as a result their incapability to handle financial challenges after serving the state.

“I am charging the Governor of Ondo-State, Barr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, to exhibit statesmanship in governance by ensuring that all former political appointees under the past People’s Democratic Party (PDP) led administration of governor Olusegun Mimiko are given their entitlements without delay.”

“Governor Akeredolu who has now spent two years in office, inherited backlog of 7months salary arrears of civil servants and political appointees. He has paid civil servants 6 months salary arrears but deliberately refused to pay a dime to all the past political appointees in the previous administration.”

“Some of the affected political appointees are dead because there was nothing for them to fall back upon during their challenging period as their entitlements were not paid by the governor who succeeded Dr. Mimiko, his immediate predecessor.”

“Governor Akeredolu should know that power is transient and government is continuum. He will leave office one day and another person will take over.”

“He was elected as executive governor of Ondo State and not executive governor of APC.”

“He should exemplify statesmanship and stop being descriminative against members of the opposition PDP who added lot of value to governance in Ondo State.”

“It is a known fact that PDP contributed immensely to the development of Ondo State especially in the last administration and the party conducted the best transition programme in the history of the state to hand over power to governor Akeredolu.”

“The said outstanding salaries of state political appointees under the past administration is less down N100M in a month. And the sum of N100m is not up to the monthly security votes of the governor every month.”

“The entitlements under concern are rights of the affected appointees and not privileges. Therefore, I appeal to governor Akeredolu to pay this salary arrears immediately.”

“The governor should take a cue from his predecessors on the way and manner this type of sensitive matter was managed in their own time.”

“I urge Mr Governor to be a father of all and not a father of a political party. He is now the governor of Ondo State and not the governor of APC.” he concluded
