Ondo PDP Guber Aspirant, Kolade Akinjo Commends Jegede, Sheba for Suspending Governorship Ambition

Hon. Kolade Victor Akinjo, one of the leading Governorship aspirants of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Ondo state has on Thursday commended Eyitayo Jegede (SAN) and Hon. Abayomi Sheba over their decisions to suspend the pursuit of their governorship ambitions.

In a statement issued on Thursday after a meeting with his teeming supporters in Akure, H.E Eyitayo Jegede declared that he would not be joining the 2024 governorship race in the overall interest of the party and also for other aspirants from the other political zone of the state to try their luck in the governorship race.

Jegede who was the Governorship Candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) back to back in 2016 and 2020, noted that he is committed to making all necessary sacrifices to provide solutions to the problems of the party rather than join in compounding it.

In his words, “The event of today has become expedient in the face of the upcoming potential activities in our state and the party. A decision has to be taken whether we need to repeat the same process that we passed through in 2012 and 2020.

We have an array of Governorship aspirants who are competent and distinguished in their various callings, we also have those who have shown exceptional qualities including consistency and unalloyed loyalty to the party.

“I feel it is time to allow these men the opportunity to try their luck in the primary and by God’s grace, ultimately win the Governorship election, all the aspirants would be accorded every support that is available at my disposal”.

In a similar news, another prominent governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party(PDP) in Ondo state, Hon. Abayomi Sheba has withdrawn from the governorship race.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by Hon. Abayomi Sheba, the former lawmaker stated that, “We cannot go into the primary with this huge number of aspirants and still come out as one big family again. This position is predicated on my past experiences. In line with this and after extensive consultation with my immediate and extended family, my political associates, supporters and sympathisers, I have decided to withdraw my participation from the race”.

Reacting to the latest development, Hon. Kolade Akinjo has described His Excellency, Eyitayo Jegede as a true and patriotic leader.

“I cannot but expound my strong admiration for Jegede’s personality and his penchant for the interest of our party. This decision is legendary in all accounts. He is truly a patriotic leader”.

“You have demonstrated true spirit of leadership. You have indeed shown the way to all other party leaders on the kind of sacrifice expected of them. You are a good example to the young and old and the leading lights of our party”, he said.

Also describing Abayomi Sheba, as a leader and a man of the masses, the former lawmaker, who represented Ilaje/Ese-odo federal constituency in the House of Representatives said, “I strongly appreciate the position taken and the sacrifices being made by our leaders. Only a man with such a good heart and love for the masses can take this decision. There are lessons to be learnt from all that is unfolding towards building a better future for our party and the people of Ondo state”.

Hon. Akinjo therefore called on other leaders and stakeholders of the party to emulate the selflessness and sacrifices made by H.E Eyitayo Jegede and Abayomi Sheba in putting the interest of the party first in their choice of candidate in the coming governorship election in Ondo State.
