‘No One Died In Ibadan Building Collapse’ – Oyo Govt
The Oyo state government has stated that there was no dead casualty in the recent building collapse at Bode area of Molete, Ibadan, the capital of the Southwestern state.
The collapse happened on Friday, just about 48 hours after the similar lives-claiming incident in Ita-Faaji on the Lagos Island in Lagos state
In the case of Ibadan, the commissioner of information, Ayo Arulogun, however mentioned that the multi-agency rescue operation team set up by Abiola Ajimobi, the governor, was able to achieve the evacuation of all victims from the
building, which was under construction at the time of the incident.
The commissioner said the wounded victims, who are in stable condition, have been taken to the hospital.
“Upon hearing the news of the incident, the Governor set up a multi-agency rescue team which promptly swung into action, mobilising equipment, materials and personnel,” the commissioner said.
“The team was able to rescue the two victims trapped in the rubble of the collapsed building as three were initially rescued manually and no fatality was recorded in the rescue operation
which ended 3.45am today.”
Arulogun added that the incident would be investigated by relevant agencies in the state. He also pleaded with building construction practitioners to desist from cutting corners and using cheap materials.
