Nigeria Does Not Need Restructuring – Obasanjo

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo rejected the call for restructuring of Nigeria by some major politicians and major stakeholders.

According to the elder statesman, what Nigeria is a well-endowed nation and what it only needs is how to manage the “God-given endowment.”

He further opined that instead of restructuring of the country, what it is needed is the restructuring of individual mentality.

He made his position known at the African Leadership Forum in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Although, Atiku Abubakar, the Vice-President of Nigeria during the tenure of President Obasanjo, is a major proponent on the topic of restructuring the nation, the ex-president maintained that he cannot be a party to all the clamourings because there are different perspectives on the prevalent subject which seek to pursue interest of divergent regions within Nigeria.

He said, “We have to restructure our mentality, we have to restructure our minds we have to restructure our understanding of Nigeria, what country do we want and if we decide on what country we want, how do we get that country, all hands on deck.

“How do we get inclusive, how do we get every Nigerian feeling a sense of having a stake in the country.”

Baba has spoken, we need egocentrism and selfish act restructuring. Corrupt mind set restructuring. I support baba stand.

How do we restructure our mentality when there is so much injustice in the system? How do we restructure our mentality when one section is cheating on the others? How do you explain 419 LGAs in the north alone when the remaining three regions are having 355 LGAs? How do you explain the lopsided appointment in the federal parastatals? I think Obasanjo spoke to make his speech politically popular. He knows the truth but decided to say something else.
