Nationwide Famine, Hunger Looming In Nigeria _ Ondo Rep. Member Akinlaja Warns

The member of the house of representatives representing Ondo west/Ondo East federal constituency, Hon. (Dr.) Joseph Akinlaja has sent a warning notice to the President Buhari led federal government, over the short and long-term negative effect of the ongoing massive killings of farmers by Fulani herdsmen, on the availability of food in times to come.

Akinlaja, who doubles as the chairman house committee on petroleum resources downstream gave his warning in a press statement signed by his media aide, Israel Fagbemigun on Monday.

According to him, States like Benue, Adamawa, Nasarawa, Plateau under the current massive attacks by Fulani herdsmen are the food baskets of the country. where the largest percentage of raw food distributed across the country are grown.

He said:

‘When the farmers growing food for the nation are currently being attacked and killed in Benue, Adamawa and Nasarawa and others states across the country. And there no one to produce food in times to come. There is definitely going to be serious faming soonest’

‘And this is why President Buhari must stop his deliberate silence on the herdsmen unslaught and deploy government machineries to stop his kinsmen now, if he truly loves Nigeria.’

On the protracted fuel scarcity and the resultant hike in price, Akinlaja Opined that it is an act of ‘extortion of man by man’. He further said the filling station get the Product at N133.28k from NNPC, and are expected to sell at N145.00 maximum. He added that those selling at prices above the pump price do that out of share greediness.

He concluded by advising the President to give utmost priority to the interest and peaceful coexistence of the Nation in his official dealings and decisions.
