JUST IN: 10 Injured As Police Disperse Protesting Students With Gunshots, Teargas In Akure

The students were reportedly protesting the continued attacks on their fellow students by some suspected cult member for the past three days.

Reports has it that the students had a clash with an electronic popularly called ‘bachi’ around Shittu street, who had accused a student identified as ‘segun’ of stealing his phone and stabbed him in many parts of his body.

Segun’s friends and others concerned among the students also reportedly went after bachi and burnt his motorcycle when they couldn’t get him.

This reportedly motivated a reinforcement from bachi’s end, comprising of his cult gang, later this evening, leading to several injuries sustained by students in the street.

The students had consequently trooped out to block the road leading to the campus, in protest of the attack, before they were dispersed by the police.

A student of the school who pleaded anonymity said not less than ten students, including the SUG President, sustained serious injuries at the scene of the event, while trying to escape the several gunshots of the security men.

However, when contacted on phone call, the Dean of students’ affairs of the College, Mr. Ogunro who confirmed the incidence, told our correspondent that everything is calm and under control, he said:

“actually the situation is now under control, we have contacted the police. Infact as I am talking to you, myself, the Provost and the SUG executives are in the police station in a combine effort to restore normalcy”

When asked further, he said there is no casualty recorded.
