Ondo Nurses set for industrial action

Barring any last minute change in decision, Nurses in Ondo state government hospitals will tomorrow (Tuesday) embark on an industrial action over unpaid accumulated salaries arrears by the Oluwarotimi Akeredolu’s administration.

Sunshinetruth reliably gathered that the nurses will be at their duties posts but would not attend to patients at various hospitals which may further compound crisis in the state health sector, as medical doctors in government hospitals had also gone on indefinite strike.

The nurses under the aegis of the National Association of Nigeria Nurses and Midwives, (NANNM), said nonpayment of their salaries and deduction had caused untold economic hardship on them and turn them to beggars.

They called on Akeredolu to act fast before it is too late, as the work to rule strike may become indefinite industrial action if their demands are not met on time.

Some of the nurses who spoke on the condition of anonymity, said the work to rule action was directed by their association’s leadership.

Efforts by our correspondent to speak with the NANNM state Chairman, Comrade Kehinde Olomiye on the strike proved abortive as several calls to his telephone line were not answered as at the time of filing in this report.

Details later…
