Ignore Calls For Hon Makinde’s Plenary Attendance, Ondo Ekimogun Development Association Urges NASS Clerk, Constituents
The Ondo Ekimogun Development Association, a group of indigenes and residents of ondo kingdom has urged the clerk of the national assembly and constituents in ondo east and west local government to ignore the call for the attendance register of the honourable representing the federal constituency, Mr. Abiola Makinde.
Nigerian cable news online earlier reported how the Ekimogun roundtable had written an open letter to the clerk of the national assembly, requesting for the lawmaker’s plenary attendance register, while alleging that he had neglected his official duties and constituents.
However, The Ondo Ekimogun Development association, in a statement signed by it’s, President, Secretary and Publicity Secretary; Engr. Christopher Akinkugbe, Dr. Mojibola Oyebade and Boderin Akinnubi, described the call for Makinde’s plenary attendance register as an attention seeking means, while adding that the group calling for it is a one-man ‘briefcase’ and unregistered group.
Below is the statement as obtained by Nigerian cable news online unedited;
We have been inundated with the spiteful and malicious publication alleging that Hon. Abiola Makinde, member representing Ondo East/ Ondo West Federal Constituency at the National Assembly has relocated to the United States, thereby abandoning his constituency.
While we found the content and the baseless allegations in the publications as laughable, we also considered it as insult to the entire people of Ondo kingdom who are constituents of Hon. Makinde because the said group is unknown to the vast majority of people and residents of the constituency.
We also discovered that the said group is a one-man ‘briefcase’ and unregistered group solely paraded by one Omoniyi Akingunola who lives and hold his business in Abuja.
An unregistered faceless group which name was christened by one businessman in Abuja can not and has no constitutional right to write to the National Assembly requesting for the attendance of any member of the assembly; because the National Assembly is an institution governed by law.
Hon. Makinde has been a grassroot and result driven representative who is loved by his constituents and popular in his constituency because of the tremendous developmental projects initiated and executed in the last 5 years of his representation.
Aside his constitutional duties of representing his people and numerous legislative oversight functions, the MHR has always been with his constituents in Ondo. The House of Representatives was on recess after a long Intensive period of plenary sessions and Hon. Makinde seized the opportunity to briefly travel to see his family in the United States.
While we regard the publication as an attention seeking means, we therefore urge the National Assembly and the good people of Ondo East and Ondo West to disregard the publication as we all know the achievements of our MHR so far.
Signed:
Ondo Ekimogun Development Association
Engr. Christopher Akinkugbe (President)
Dr. Mojibola Oyebade (Secretary)
Boderin Akinnubi (Publicity Secretary)
