I Wish Ajimobi Can Still Remain Oyo Governor After 2019 _ Olubadan
The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji has incredibly validated Governor Abiola Ajimobi’s administration in Oyo state and therefore wishes he could serve yet a another term in office.
Ajimobi, who is presently serving his second term in office would however not be able to run for same office by the provisions of the Nigerian constitution.
The monarch on Thursday said he “would have loved him [Ajimobi] to go for another term” but it goes against the constitution.
He said this during a meeting between the governor and traditional rulers in Oyo state.
The Olubadan said: “Yoruba don’t appreciate themselves except to abuse and criticise but when someone has done well, we must say it,” he said.
“I am talking about what I have seen so far. In view of this, I would have loved him to go for another term if not that the constitution does not allow it.
“The governor has performed very well. He has recorded unprecedented achievements worthy of commendation.
This is the only way to spur him into greater performance for the benefit of the whole state.”
The monarch’s commendation of the governor is coming after an Ibadan high court had recently annulled the review of the 1957 olubadan chieftaincy declaration.
The ruling was the latest development in a tug of war that emanated after the governor installed 21 new kings
against the wish of the olubadan.
