How Truck crushed Pregnant woman, two kids, okada riders to death in Ondo
A truck carrying petroleum content on Saturday crashed in a busy commercial area of Okorun quarter in Ikare Akoko township of Akoko northeast local government of Ondo state, killing Four people on the spot, while some are in critical conditions in the hospital, Nigerian Cable news online reported.
It was gathered that the truck entering the town from the Ado Ekiti axis of Ikare-Ado road lost control on the hilly area and crashed into the commercial area around a police station at Okorun Ikare.
An eyewitness account says many sustained various degrees of injuries in the accident, and were rushed to the State Specialist Hospital Ikare.
Among those who died on the spot were a pregnant woman and her two children.
The auto crash involved a diesel tanker, truck and six motorcycles.
The injured were counted in Scores.
The trailer conveying diesel reportedly had a break failure and crashed into a truck which eventually crushed many commercial motor-cyclists.
Reports had it that several of the dead were said to be motorcycle riders.
While eyewitnesses said the number of deaths have risen to eight, the spokesman for the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, Omotola Ogungbawo, confirmed only four deaths.
Officials of the FRSC said the accident involved two trucks, four motorcycles and six other vehicles.
It was gathered that officials of the FRSC, police, and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps rushed to the scene to carry out a rescue operation.
