Guber Poll: We Will Not Allow Your Frustration, Desperation To Deter Our Focus, Ondo APC Tells PDP
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has stated that no magnitude of shenanigans from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will make it lose its focus in ensuring that its candidate Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa wins Saturday´s gubernatorial election.
Reacting to an allegation of planned rigging on Saturday, The APC campaign spokesperson in Ondo State, Hon Bar Banji Okunomo noted that the PDP has again shown its deep frustration and unpreparedness for the fast- approaching governorship election.
He observed that while serious minded political parties like the APC would be busy crossing the t´s and dotting the i´s in ensuring that the party´s campaign train reaches every part of the State, no matter how remote the location is, the PDP is moving about making baseless accusations.
According to the APC campaign spokesperson: “The PDP in Ondo State has continuously proven to be an unserious opposition. Otherwise, they would have taken a cue from the APC by engaging in aggressive last-minute campaign ahead of Saturday´s election.
“However, rather than campaign, they are going about making baseless accusations about some plans to rig the elections. If there were such plans, why then would we embark on the kind of aggressive campaigns that we have done in the past few weeks?”, Okunomo queried.
According to the campaign spokesperson, the APC governorship candidate and incumbent governor has reiterated his commitment to a credible poll because he is convinced that he has been able to win the hearts of the Ondo electorate based on his humanist approach to governance in the past 10 months.
“The APC does not need to compromise the process or the electoral umpire to win Saturday´s governorship election. The party is popular and the candidate is widely accepted by all and sundry. Moreover, the APC has done all that is lawfully permissible in terms of campaigns and political lobbying to ensure its victory at the polls.
“Without being immodest, the APC launched out the best political campaigns in the history of Ondo State. The campaign train visited all the 18 local governments including all the remote parts of the State. If there were plans to com promise the electoral process, all of these would not have been necessary”.
“And in each of the places we visited, the people expressed their happiness with Governor Ayedatiwa. We have assurances that the people will vote for the governor on Saturday. In fact, the election will just be an affirmation of the people´s love for the Governor, APC candidate”, Okunomo said.
Speaking further, the campaign spokesperson attributed the attitude of the PDP to the unpopularity of its governorship candidate saying: “Unlike Governor Ayedatiwa, the candidate of the PDP is unpopular and he already knows that he will be roundly defeated in Saturday´s election”.
The campaign spokesperson appealed to the PDP candidate to toe the path of honour saying “the PDP should focus on rebuilding its house that is already in disarray. All the political gladiators in the party have left as a result of the outcome of the PDP governorship primaries conducted by the party. I want to appeal to the PDP that rather than lodge baseless complaints that lack merit, the party can simply accept defeat by declining to participate in the election.
“The PDP candidate can step aside because he knows that he cannot win. That is why they are deploying unnecessary schemes to unsettle the polity. First, it was the REC. After that agenda has failed, they are alleging that there are plans to compromise some electoral officers.
“The APC wants to categorically state that there are no plans to compromise any INEC official. The APC has vowed to comply with the electoral process. We will not undercut the process because we have already engaged in massive mobilization during our campaigns. We know that Governor Ayedatiwa will coast to victory”, Okunomo asserted. .
