Fayose: Why I Won’t Attend Fayemi’s Inauguration
Ekiti state outgoing governor, Ayodele Fayose, has said he won’t be present at the swearing-in of his successor, Kayode Fayemi scheduled to hold on the 16th of October 2018.
The two spectacular reasons to warrant his absence, according to him, doesn’t connote that he has any personal issue with Fayemi but to evade harassment from unsent politicians (who are loyal to latter) and the need to answer to probing charges of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, that coincides with that scheduled date.
Fayose’s tenure ends on October 15 and the next day, Fayemi is scheduled to be inaugurated as the new state governor.
However, Fayose had written a letter to the anti-graft agency, EFCC on September 10, 2018 requesting an invitation to report in their Headquarters for questioning immediately after the expiration of his tenure in office over some corrupt charges against his administration in four years.
As the PDP governor spoke with journalists in Ado-Ekiti on Thursday, he gave the above reasons as the basis on which he won’t be turning up for the ceremony.
“Politicians are erratic people. If I should attend the programme, some politicians may use the chance to harass me, even when they are not sent by Fayemi.
“This will further destroy relationship; the issues between me and Fayemi are not personal. I have been cooperating with the committee set up by Fayemi on this transition”, he said.
“Again, I have to be in EFCC office in Abuja on Tuesday, but let me say clearly that I am ready to appear before any panel set up by the incoming government to probe my administration”, he also mentioned.
Fayose was confident that he would be cleared of charges at the appearance before the anti-graft agency because of his transparency as he emphasized that he is not dodging probes.
Since EFCC has not reverted his request ever since, Fayose further maintained that he would be expecting their call to present himself at the office in the said date.
“Let it be known that I am not going anywhere, as being insinuated around. Rather, I will even be available for all manner of state probe by the incoming government.
“Be assured that since I do not have anything to hide, I will not fail to also attend any form of probe panels, commissions of enquiry or by whatever that the new government in the state may decide to set up concerningnme.
“All that is required is just for them to either put a call across to me or send me a notice of invitation, indicating the venue and time. Once all these are fulfilled, they can be expecting that I will make myself personally available, and not through any lawyer or other representation.”
