Ezekwesili, Ben Bruce Blast Buhari Over Medical Trip
The convener of the Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) movement and former minister of education, Obiageli ‘Oby’ Ezekwesili has criticizee President Muhammadu Buhari over his working vacation to United Kingdom, which began yesterday, August 3.
After the Presidency announced on Wednesday that the President would be traveling to London for his 10-day vacation and hand over to the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, the media has been set agog with speculation that the holiday is not different from his past foreign medical trips.
Sometimes in 2017, President Buhari had spent 103 days in London to seek medical attention over his worrying health.
In a thread of tweets on Thursday evening, Ezekwesili maintained that the President doesn’t deserve a holiday as his government had failed.
“Holiday is an extended period of leisure and recreation, especially one spent away from home or in traveling, AFTER HAVING WORKED HARD OVER A PERIOD OF TIME. Have you earned a Holiday? Then go on Holiday. Have you NOT earned a Holiday? Then just find a Seat and try working hard for a Change”, she mentioned.
She continued by alluding that it becomes more apparent that the president is more engrossed with the goodies that accompany the office rather than being overwhelmed with the burden therein.
“Some things have become pretty obvious now. Our President honestly enjoys the trappings of being President but NOT the HARD WORK and TOILING that come with it.
“Nigerians would like to go on Holiday with him. Holiday ko, Holiday nii”, she scorned.
Similarly, a Peoples Democratic Party’s Senator Ben Murray Bruce compared current President Buhari with ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo in terms of their reliance on the health facilities of their home-country.
Ex-president Obasanjo was in Bayelsa state in Monday for medical check-up and also as a guest of the state government which launched a new health programme advised Nigerians to shun medical tourism as their health needs can be adequately attended within the country.
“With the presence of top quality
health care facilities in some parts
of the country, Nigerians have no
business traveling abroad for
treatment.
“When I was here earlier this year, I saw the standard of facilities that could be used by all Nigerians, instead of going to the United Kingdom, Dubai, India for medical check-up.
“The same thing you get anywhere in the world, you can find here in Bayelsa. Why do you have to travel? “What people are going to UK and India for, it is here in Bayelsa State”, said.
Ben Bruce, who was in the company of the elder stateman took the actions of Obasanjo to throw a stroke at Buhari.
“A few days ago I was with President Obasanjo in Bayelsa where he went for his medical check up. That is a leader who believes in Nigeria. That is a leader who loves Nigeria. Meanwhile, I hear that London would soon have a visit from one of her most famous health tourists”, he said on Twitter.
He definitely was throwing banters at the current Nigerian President as that comment coincides with the announcement of Femi Adesina, the President’s spokesman that same Wednesday.
Beyond the coincidence, our correspondent observed the subsequent tweet by the upper chamber lawmaker confirmed his previous comment as an indirect attack to President Buhari.
“How, for instance, can we ask foreign tourists to come and holiday in Nigeria if our own leaders constantly only go abroad for their own holidays where they move about freely but at home, they move about with small armies? We can’t grow if leaders constantly go abroad for holiday”, he had noted in social media.
