The Economic and Financial Crime commission(EFCC) has arrested and arraigned the immediate Past Vice Chancellor of Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Professor Anthony Elujoba on an allegation of misappropriating N1.4 billion while in office.
He was arrested on Wednesday and taken to the EFCC Office in Ibadan. Reports also has it that his international Passport have been seized by the Anti-graft Agency officers.
Recall, that the former vice chancellor was interrogated by EFCC last year. For allegedly diverting the money meant for a capital project planned by Professor Bamitale Omole, his predecessor to salary payment, without the approval of the school’s Governing Councils.
While Speaking with the Public Relation officer of OAU, Mr. Abiodun Olarenwaju, he confirmed to Niagerin Cable News that the former V.C and the University Bursar (Mrs. Aderonke Akeredolu) were arrested on Wednesday. He also added that they were taken to the state High court at Ede today, and that the case has been adjourned till Tuesday for further trial, he also said they will remain in the Custody of EFCC till the said day.
However, members of the Non Academic staff Union NASU, ASSU, and some other Unions on Campus have expressed there dissatisfaction this development by closing there various offices and suspending work today, in solidarity with Prof. On trial. As they believe has is innocent.
