Press Statement by Engineer Chris Ogiemwonyi an APC Governorship aspirant in Edo State To Workers On May Day.

I congratulate the entire labour force in Nigeria on the ocassion of May Day, 2020.

May 1 tagged Workers Day is a reminder of the plight public servants are subjected to in the hands of the ruling class. This day was chosen to be International Workers’ Day to commemorate the 1886 Haymarket Affair in Chicago when over thirty workers were shot dead for protesting. Today you have another opportunity to revisit and brainstorm about the heroics of your former leaders.

Some of your erstwhile leaders have paid various prices to get you the little favours you enjoy today. Many even paid the supreme sacrifice in their struggle to obtain the freedom of today.

This special day of yours should be spent brainstorming on ways to take the average public servant out of the poverty line. The workers are the goose laying the golden egg. Your inputs and efforts, through sweat and toiling round the clock, are the oil that makes the engine of governance run smoothly. You deserve to be treated well.

I am of the opinion that workers are partners in progress with the political class. Over the years, you have been guiding the politicians in the art of administration. I commend your heroics and selfless service in the task of nationhood.

As you mark Workers Day, I want to assure you that if elected into office as the Governor of Edo State, I will make the welfare of public servants my number one priority.

I wish you happy Workers Day.

Signed
Engineer Chris Ogiemwonyi,
APC Governorship aspirant
in Edo State.
