Burkina Fasso: Why Ibrahim Traore Must Start Preparing To Step Aside – Ikubese

Former Presidential Aspirant and convener of the #YesWeFit revolutionary movement, Dr. Thomas-wilson Ikubese has urged the Burkina Fasso military head of state, captain Ibrahim Traore to start preparing for his exit from government in the country.

Ikubese, in a visual message to the Burkina Fasso leader on Facebook sited the need to ‘leave now that the ovation is loudest’ as the reason why the military junta should start planning his exit from government.

‘You have been in government since september 2022 and there are some things you must quickly put in place after which you will need to step aside. Now the ovation is loud and it’s better to quit when the ovation is loudest. But before you quit, there are things you must do’ he said.

Among the immediate needfuls recommended to Traore by Ikubese is the need to write a new constitution for the country. This, according to Ikubese, is to make elective government offices unattractive to political jobbers and looters.

He added that polical parties should be made to sell forms at rates easily affordable to the average citizen of the country. He also said that the results of election should be electronically transmitted from the polling units immediately after vote counting.
He further said: ‘The minimum wage in Burkina Fasso is what every polical office holder should collect. No bogus allowance’

He said the incoming and expenditure of government should be published on monthly basis.

He advised Traore to remove immunity from the privileges of sitting political office holders while urging that alleged corrupt leaders should be tried in court and their cases decided within six months. He said those found guilty should be sent to life imprisonment without option of fine, and their immediate family members be banned from holding public offices in the country.

As for the terms of office, ‘single term, non-renewable five or six years ‘ he said.

These, according to Ikubese, will bring out only leaders who are ready to make the country work.
