How Buhari Is Promoting Nigeria’s Break-Up – Afenifere

The Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere has reacted to the national broadcast of President Muhammadu Buhari on the occasion of the celebration of Nigeria’s independence.

President Buhari, in his speech condemned the agitations of the IPOB and other secessionists, claiming they have hijacked the clamors for restructuring.

The National Publicity Secretary of Afenifere Odumakin however insinuated from the President’s speech that he is indirectly giving strength to the attempt to split Nigeria.

He argued that the President had mistaken restructuring for secession and therefore called on Buhari to give his attention to the matter of restructuring instead.

“Buhari is indirectly promoting those working for the break-up of Nigeria by ignoring the demands of Nigerians for restructuring.

“He should separate those agitating for restructuring from those calling for a break-up of the country. I think he is confusing restructuring with break-up.

“Those calling for restructuring are those working to avert the
breakup of Nigeria while those opposed to it are the ones working for the break-up of the country.

“Let the President deal with restructuring; if he does not listen to the agitations for restructuring, he is promoting those who
are working for the break-up of the country”, he established.

Vice President Oshinbajo is an academician who is adept at semantics. The proponents of Restructuring have argued that they mean areturn to the Independence and the 1963 constitution. These were the constitutions that enabled The Great Chief Awolowo to bring so much development to the then Western Nigeria and Professor Oshinbajo alluded to Chief Awolowo’s performance. Vice president Oshinbajo should stop trying to confuse issues. Nigerians understand the Restructuring that the proponents are talking about. No amount of semantics can now confuse Nigerians.
