Buhari Missed Several Opportunities To Inscribe His Name Positively In The Hearts Of Nigerians – Ikubese

Former presidential aspirant and convener of the #YesWeFit revolutionary movement, Dr. Thomas-wilson Ikubese has said late former president Buhari missed several golden opportunities to inscribe his name positively in the hearts of Nigerians as a military head of state from 31 December 1983 to 27 August 1985 and as a civilian President from 29 May 2015 to 29 May 2023.

Ikubese, in a statement released on Sunday however condoled with buhari’s family, while admonishing political office holder to always put the interest of the masses above their own personal interests and implement policies that will better the lots of the citizens.

Below is the full text of the statement unedited:

I condole with the immediate family members of former President Muhammadu Buhari on the demise of our former President at the age of 82 years.

I’m hesitant to condole with Nigerians at large, as many have different opinions on the impact of the political policies of the late Major General on their lives.

In as much as our culture as Africans restrain us from speaking ill of the dead, truth remains constant, even in death.

It is no gain say that President Buhari missed several golden opportunities to inscribe his name positively in the hearts of Nigerians as a military head of state from 31 December 1983 to 27 August 1985 and as a civilian President from 29 May 2015 to 29 May 2023.

That our public health facilities have remained perpetually comatose and while as a sitting President, he jetted out of Nigeria severally to access health care abroad and eventually passed on today in the United Kingdom where he went for medicare, two years after leaving office leaves a sour taste in the mouth.

While I pray that Almighty God grants his immediate family the fortitude to bear the loss, I admonish every political office holder to always put the interest of the masses far above their own personal interests and implement policies that will better the lots of the citizens and not a select few, so that they can forever live in the hearts of the people and the citizens can speak well of them while alive and in death.
