Herdsmen kill 5 in another Ondo community

No fewer than five (5) persons have been killed in Arimogija community of Ose local government in Ondo state, after gunmen suspected to be Fulani herders attacked farmers on their farmland on Monday afternoon, Nigerian Cable News online has reliability gathered.

It was also gathered that the Monday attack left many others with various degrees of injury.

Nigerian Cable News online reported how the gunmen had attacked Omolege, a border community in the same local government, killed three people and razed houses between the late hours of thursday (6th) and early hours of friday (7th) of January 2022.

Governor Akeredolu visited Omolege on Sunday, and vowed to hunt the perpetrators.

However, the gunmen visited farmers in the next community with another attack on Monday afternoon, leaving at least five people death.

The victims; Osaromere Augustine,
Odalume stephen, the community youth chairman, Augustine lucky,
Okpakoro and Monday black, were killed in a first attack and an ambush.

The community youth secretary of Arimogija, Mr. Nweke Izuchukwu Jude, while recounting the incident to Nigerian Cable News online, said the five youths were killed in two attacks.

He said:

“they attacked the first set of people on the farm and killed two of them. it was those injured in the first attack that called other villagers for help, and while those who went to rescue them were trying to take the injured back home for treatment. they (the armed herders) appear again and killed three more people”

“the armed fulani men are in our Bushes and Farmlands, all we need is the support of security men to chase them away and arrest as many as possible.” he added.

Asked if the security men on ground where aware of the incident. Jude said all the Policemen, except one, who came to the community left with the governor on Sunday, and that the only one left could not enter the bush.

He appeal to the governor for a better reinforcement of security men, so as to secure the lives of the villagers against another attack.

When Nigerian Cable News online contacted the Ondo state Police PRO, DSP Funmilayo Odunlami to speak on the incident, she said: “I don’t have any information concerning that”.
