Council Of State Approves N27,000 As New Minimum Wage

The national council of state has approved N27, 000 as the new minimum wage, Nigerian Cable News online can report.

The council gave the approval at its first meeting of the year on Tuesday.

In December 2018, the tripartite committee had recommended N30,000 as minimum wage.

According to the Minister for labour, Mr. Cris Ngige, N27,000.00 shall be the lowest payable for the least paid among states and Private sector worker. Ngige however added that federal government will pay it’s own workers at least N30,000.00.

However, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in a swift reaction has rejected the new development.

If the new decision is upheld, it shall be the first time in the history of Nigeria, where the government will approve and pass a discriminating minimum wage to law.
