Bad Leadership; A Reason For Developmental Stagnancy In Ondo South – Akinrinlola

The National President of the Council of concerned youths (COCYON), Pastor Olumide Akinrinlola has identified wrong choice of leaders as the major reason why Ondo south senatorial district of Ondo state is lagging behind in development.

Addressing some members of his group yesterday at Fasoranti amusement park in Akure, the Ondo State capital, Akinrinlola attributed leadership responsibility failure, voting and appointment of foreigners into political offices, as part of the reasons Ondo South was lagging behind in development in Ondo State.

Pastor Akinrinlola gave this hint in a feedback speech delivered during a get together meeting organised by the Ondo State chapter of the group to inform them about the mitigants put in place by the government and security chiefs in Odigbo local government to curtail the incessant attack on farmers by the fulani herdsmen especially in Ondo south where a farmer was killed and another aged woman raped by the Fulani Herdsmen in Odigbo local government areas some months ago.

Recall that the group recently issued a one month ultimatum to the State government with threat to paralyse vehicular activities on Lagos Benin Express way in Ore if nothing is done to mitigate fulani herdsmen activities pending when the government will send open anti grazing bill to the state assembly .

However, the group later suspended the one month ultimatum after the national president, Pastor Akinrinlola met with government officials and security chiefs in Odigbo LGA.

In his briefing, Pastor Akinrinlola told members of the group that stakeholders of Fulani Herdsmen in Odigbo LG in conjunction with their state body has entered into written agreement and signed undertaking with security chiefs/government with promise that such evil occurrence will not reoccur again.

He also said all herdsmen in Odigbo LG have been group into sections with various sections having group leaders , with functioning phone numbers and addresses submitted to all security agencies represented in the meeting for easy identification of any crime perpetrator. He also mentioned that compensation were made to some Farmers who reported to the police that their farms were destroyed by herdsmen.

During his address, he blame the youths for making wrong choices and electing foreigners into political offices due to monetary influence. He also said there were lot of appointment errors by state and federal government which has adversely affected the progress of Ondo south.

According to him:

“You see ! Our problem in Ondo south is not witchcraft as believed by many. And I am not denying the fact that we have witches and wizards in Ondo south. Of course, you know witches and wizards are everywhere. But that is not the reason Ondo south is stagnant.”

“Our problem is wrong leadership. When a wrong person is elected or appointed, it leads to leadership responsibility failure. Some leaders in Ondo south were erroneously elected while some were appointed in error. When you appointed or elected a foreigners who is not a grass root into a position of authority, then, there will be problem. Such a person cannot perform because they won’t know where the shoe pinches. These set of leaders are those who appear during electioneering and disappear again after election. ”

“They don’t have any base at home. Many of them don’t know the terrain in Ondo south. They are foreigners who always come home during election period with bag of money to buy our mandate and run back to their base after getting what they need from us. They can’t add value. Foreigners will always leave you the way they meet you. Stop supporting foreigners henceforth. 2019 is here again. Identify with People living around you. When you support a grass root, he will always have the thought of coming home one day.” Pastor Akinrinlola concluded.

When asked if he has any political ambition, Pastor Akinrinlola said God has given him an assignment greater than political ambitions which already occupies his mind for now. On the struggle to restore electricity to some part of Ondo south, he said the collection of money for the payment of electricity debts by the fund raising team of Bring Back Our Light group, BBOL, has already begun from Ode Aye town, hoping that rehabilitation works will soon commence on damaged electricity facilities.
