APC Urges INEC To Discountenance Calls For Removal Of Ondo REC, Says It’s Baseless
….this is an open admission of defeat – Banji Okunomo
Following statements attributed to Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde at the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) campaign rally held today in Akure where he demanded that INEC Chairman should remove Ondo Resident Electoral Officer (REC) Mrs. Toyin Babalola because “she is from Ondo State.”, the Secretary 1, Strategy & Communication for the All Progressive Congress (APC) Campaign Committee, Hon. Barr. Banji Okunomo (BBO) has described the allegation as baseless and non factual.
“I have read the rebuttal of INEC to the allegation stating that Mrs Toyin Babalola , the Ondo REC, is not from Ondo State as it is the Policy of INEC not to deploy any person to his/her indigenous State in that capacity. This clearly shows that the PDP, in its desperation, did not carry out any fact check before raising allegation.” Banji said.
Okunomo, who said the comment is also an open admission of defeat by the opposition party further noted that it is an indication that the party has accepted its defeat ahead of November 16th Governorships elections.
“As a serious minded political party, the APC has been going about its campaigns in a free atmosphere devoid of controversies whereas the PDP is unnecessarily attacking and pointing accusing fingers frivolously on anything that comes their way. They are yet to go through the processes and yet they have started alleging. I’m not too surprised because it has been in the serial nature of a political Party awaiting defeat “, he added.
He thus called on the people of the State not to be deterred by the allegation as INEC will ensure credible process for their votes to count.
Particularly, he charged INEC Chairman to remain steadfast and to ignore the call as it is baseless.
