Acting Police IG Disbands F-SARS
The new Inspector General of Police Mohammed A. Adamu has now ordered the disbandment of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).
The development was announced by the Ag IGP on Monday at his inaugural conference with Commissioners of Police and other senior officers in Abuja.
Bashir Ahmad, the media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari also tweeted,
“The Inspector General of Police, Mohammed A. Adamu has ordered the immediate disbandment of the Federal SARS, Special Investigation Panel and Special Tactical Squad”, the tweet read.
In the past, the operations of F-SARS have been hugely criticized by the Nigerian people across social media many complain their officers are often repressive and have even derailed from the supposed sane responsibilities that should perform.
The outcry have resulted in the hashtag EndSARS sometimes ago which later prompted Vice President Osinbajo in August 2018 to order Ibrahim Idris, former IG of police, to reorganise the unit and this led to the centralisation of the unit.
