AAUA Students Are Very Irresponsible – Ondo First Lady, Akeredolu

The wife of the Ondo state Governor, Mrs. Betty Anyanwu-Akeredolu on Saturday said the students of Adekunle Ajasin University (AAUA) Are the most irresponsible students she has ever seen.

The Ondo state Governor’s wife said this at the maiden edition of the Ondo state social media day held at the Federal University of Technology (FUTA) Campus.

Sources present at the event confirmed that the statement led to an altercation between the students and security aides of Mrs. Akeredolu, as students present at the program insisted that she must apologize for using such an unprintable word on them, before she can go out of the hall.

Trouble started when Mrs. Betty was recounting her experience with some students of AAUA during their protest against the school fee increment imposed on the students by her husband.

The event, which was organized to motivate youths and students to develop business ideas on the social media later turned roudy when she repeated the statement and said she could be quoted anywhere.

Reacting to the justification of the statement by some direct and indirect social media aide of the governor’s wife. The immediately past commissioner for youth in the state, Mr. Dayo Awude, who was also a guest at the event said:

“if what she said was an “ordeal” I think she needs to know that as a wife of a public office holder, particularly a governor, she will still pass through much more “ordeals”. Her reaction was simply trying to kill a mosquito with a sledge hammer. Her comments was just a replical of ” constituted authority” of Oyo State. You don’t expect students whose educational survival was being threatened to be smiling or waiving at you. In the public space, particularly in Nigeria, you receive periodic knocks regardless of whether or not you’re right. Arabirin should learn that, moving forward. Her statement yesterday was very needless.”

He further said:

“let’s forget about the sentiment or blackmail of age. A public officer or servant is not older than anyone in the system. That’s why you will see a child call Obasanjo, Awolowo etc by their names. Let’s address the issues and not the sentiments thereof.”

The statement has however attracted several opinions from youths and students since it was made at the event.
