AAUA Fees Hike: Ondo Assembly Summons Tunji Abayomi, Femi Agagu
The Ondo State House of Assembly on Tuesday summoned the governing council chairman of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Dr. Tunji Abayomi as well as the state commissioner for Education, Mr. Femi Agagu.
The official invitation is not unconnected to the crisis that has followed the recently announced increment in the school fees of the University
The Speaker of the House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Bamidele Oleyeloogun gave the directive during a sitting of the honourables.
He asked the concerned officers to present themselves before the lawmakers by noon tomorrow, Wednesday.
Recall that nigeriancablenewsonline.com on Monday reported that the house dissociated itself from the school fees increment, describing it as too high for the people of the state in the present economic realities.
Speaking on the matter of urgent public importance, majority leader Olugbenga Araoyinbo who moved the motion that the management of AAUA be invited appealed to the students, parents, and citizenry at large to remain calm.
Speaker Bamidele Oleyelogun also promised to wade into the situation and assured the people of the state that there would be a positive change very soon.
The house also invited the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Wahab Adegbenro, Chief Medical Director, State Specialist Hospital, Akure and Special Adviser to the Governor on Health to appear before it tomorrow by 3 pm over the protest by pregnant women on the increase in antenatal fees.
