5 Die, Several Injured On Lagos-Ibadan Expressway Accident
No fewer than five persons have lost their lives while 19 others were injured in multiple accidents at Kara Bridge on Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.
The accident occurred in the early hours of Thursday.
According to report, fatal accident was caused by a tanker loaded with 33,000 litres of diesel which rammed into a stationary truck carrying brewery products.
Fifteen people sustained injuries in the accident which involved 16 vehicles and resulted in an inferno.
Confirming the unfortunate incident, the Lagos state sector commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Hyginus Omeje stated that three of the victims died on the spot and two later died in the hospital.
“We received a call this morning that an accident occurred by the Kara Bridge along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway where about 16 vehicles were involved.
“Three people died on the spot while two later died at the hospital, the crash involved many vehicles, including buses, cars and trucks.
“The number of people involved in the accident was 53. They are 40 men and 13 women.
“The injured people have been taken to the nearest hospital with the help of Lagos State Emergency Management.”
